Coronavirus Pandemic

Coronavirus Pandemic

Coronavirus

What are its symptoms and how do you protect yourself from it??

What are the symptoms??

Scientists confirm that Coronavirus needs an average of five days to show its symptoms that start with fever, followed by a dry cough, and after about a week, the injured feels a shortness of breath, which calls for treatment in the hospital.

The symptoms rarely come in the form of sneezing or flow mucus from the nose. Also, the appearance of these symptoms does not necessarily mean that you are infected, because it's similar to symptoms of other types of viruses such as common cold and influenza.

Coronavirus Pandemic

In severe cases, the Coronavirus can cause pneumonia, acute pneumonia syndrome, insufficiency functions of a number of body organs even death.

The elderly and people who suffer from chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease are the most vulnerable to infection.

Virus incubation period -between infection and the appearance of symptoms- lasts about 14 days according to universe health organization but some researchers say that this period may reach to 24 days.

Researches advise people who can transmit the infection-whether they have symptoms or not-to isolate themselves for 14 days to avoid transmitting the virus to others.

Most of the Arab and European countries started to implement compulsory healthy insulation to reduce the spread of infection.

Health crews in many countries face hard choices, as they have to give priority to patients at the expense of others, because there are not enough respirators, as in the United States.

It is not yet known exactly how the Coronavirus spreads from one person to another, but similar viruses spread through spray when an injured person coughs or sneezes.

The World Health Organization recommends the following:

Wash hands thoroughly with soap, as it can eliminate viruses.*

*Covering your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough and wash your hands afterwards to prevent the virus from spreading.

*Avoid touching the eyes, nose, and mouth as soon as the hand touches a surface that is likely to be contaminated with the virus, as the virus can be transmitted to the body
in this way.

Do not approach people suffering from coughing, sneezing or fever, as they can spread small particles containing the virus in the air. It is preferable to be away from them for a distance of one meter.

How fast is the virus spreading?

Thousands of new cases are reported every day around the world, and there is a belief that health authorities are likely to be unaware of many cases, and that they are not prepared to conduct infection tests for large numbers of people.

The virus began to spread in China and soon spread to countries like South Korea, Italy, and Iran. Recently, there have been cases of injury in many Arab countries, along with thousands in the US and Spain.

With the rapid spread of cold and flu in winter, some hope that the epidemic will decline as seasons shift and temperatures rise, but scientists have yet to prove that the epidemic is affected by heat.

Domestic isolation of those who show symptoms of the disease, or of one of their family members, can limit the spread of the epidemic.

How dangerous is the virus and will my health improve?

According to the data of 56,000 patients, the World Health Organization says that four out of every five people infected with the Coronavirus show only slight symptoms, and she adds:

80 percent have mild symptoms.-

14 percent have severe symptoms.-

6 per cent are seriously ill.-

The rate of death from the disease appears low (between one and two percent), but these percentages are uncertain.

Thousands are being treated so far, and some may die. So the mortality rate is likely to rise.

However, it is not known yet how many minor cases have not been reported, so it is also possible that the mortality rate will be reduced.

To look more comprehensively, about one billion people are flu-affected annually, and 290 to 650,000 die. Influenza intensity varies from year to year.

Can Coronavirus be cured??

Treatment is still based on basic procedures, which is to keep the patient's body able to perform its vital operations, by placing it on the respiratory until his immune system is completely able to resist the virus.

Work continues developing an anti-virus vaccine, researchers hope to start testing it on humans before the end of the year.

Hospitals are also testing the effectiveness of antiviral drugs to see their impact in treating this virus, drawing on China’s experience in reducing the spread of the disease.

Coronavirus Pandemic

 How did the virus start??

The virus is not "new" (it infects animals), but it is new for humans after it can transmit between different types of organisms.

Many people in China deal closely with virus-carrying animals, which are easily spread in a country with high population density.

For example, severe acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) first appeared in bats, then moved to cats, and then to humans.

The SARS epidemic started in China in 2002, killing 774 persons out of 8098 injured.

The current virus is one of the seven known species of the Coronavirus, and it does not seem to be mutated yet. But while the virus appears stable, scientists continue to monitor it closely.
